Records Set at Swimming Championships Day Two

A total of nine World records and 13 European records were set as day two finished at the 2009 IPC Swimming European Championships.

A World record was set in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke (SB8) by Olesya Vladykina from Russia with her time of 1:17.60. Vladykina was followed by Poland’s Paulina Kamila Wozniak and Great Britain’s Claire Cashmore. Ukraine’s Andriy Kalyna took first in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke (SB8) with his time of 1:07.73, followed by Alejandro Sanchez (ESP) and Onea Andreas (AUT) respectively.

Germany’s Lucas Ludwig set a European record in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (SM10) with a time of 2:15.95. Ludwig was followed by Sven Decaesstecker from Belgium and Robert Welbourn from Great Britain. For the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (SM10), France’s Elodie Lorandi took first with a time of 2:42.19. Lorandi was followed by Eleni Papadopoulos (GBR) and Nina Ryabova (RUS) respectively.

Lisa Den Braber from the Netherlands set a European record in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke (SB7) with her time of 1:34.57. She was followed by Emma Hollis from Great Britain and Annika Geller from Germany. In the Men’s 100m Breaststroke (SB7), Great Britain’s Sascha Kindred took first with a time of 1:24.15. Kindred was followed by Ukraine’s Iaroslav Semenenko and Russia’s Ruslan Sadvakasov respectively.

The 2009 IPC Swimming European Championships continue in Reykjavik, Iceland, through 24 October. The event has a total 650 athletes and staff in the Nordic country, along with 37 participating countries.
