A live stream of the 2009 IPC Swimming European Championships will be broadcasted on www.ParalympicSport.TV today and tomorrow, starting at 5pm GMT. Today, the athletes will compete in 11 finals for the medals. Tune in to see the action!
Meanwhile, day five of the 2009 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming European Championships saw several teams push to higher rankings, leaving many tied in the medal tally.
A European record was set in the Men’s 50m Freestyle (S9) by Tamas Sors from Hungary with a time of 26.09s. Sors was followed by Spain’s Jose Antonio Alcaraz-Garcia and France’s Sami El Gueddari respectively. In the Women’s 50m Freestyle (S9), Great Britain’s Louise Watkin took first with a time of 29.66s. Coming in second and third were Spain’s Sarai Gascon Moreno and Great Britain’s Clair Cashmore respectively.
Another European record was set in the Men’s 100m Butterfly (S8) by France’s Charles Rozoy with his time of 1:03.27. Rozoy was followed by Great Britain’s Richard Howard and Hungary’s Ferenc Nandor Csuri respectively. In the Women’s 100m Butterfly (S8), Great Britain’s Heather Frederiksen took first with her time of 1:16.33. Frederiksen was followed by Russia’s Anna Vengerovskaya and Great Britain’s Emma Hollis respectively.
In the Men’s 50m Breaststroke (SB3), Spain’s Miguel Luque Avila took first with a time of 51.60s. Avila was followed by Greece’s Vasileios Tsagkaris and Italy’s Nicolo Bensi respectively. For the Women’s 50m Breaststroke (SB3), Denmark’s Karina Lauridsen came in first with her time of 1:01.76. She was followed by Russia’s Natalia Popova and Sweden’s Jennie Ekstrom.

The 2009 IPC Swimming European Championships continue in Reykjavik, Iceland, through Saturday, 24 October. The event has a total 650 athletes and staff in the Nordic country, along with 37 participating countries.
