HRH Princess Margriet to Visit IPC Swimming World Championships
Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Margriet of the Netherlands has officially confirmed her attendance at the 2010 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven.
HRH Princess Margriet will come to the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium to support and meet with athletes, and to present medals.
HRH Princess Margriet was the first member of the IPC Honorary Board in 2005, and has been an active supporter for the Paralympic Movement, including having taken a leading role as a member of the Organizing Committee of the 1980 Paralympic Games in Arnhem, the Netherlands. In Eindhoven, HRH Princess Margriet will be among many other Paralympic fans cheering on the athletes’ success as they power through the water.
The IPC’s Honorary Board was created to allow leaders of society an opportunity to support the vision of the Paralympic Movement and to strive to maintain the topic of Paralympic Sport high on the agenda of the global community.
Taking place from 15-21 August, a total of 649 athletes from 53 different countries are participating at the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Competing inside the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium for the gold, silver and bronze medal in their respective event, the number of participating athletes and countries is one of the largest of any previous Swimming World Championships.
