More Top Results at Day 5 of Swimming Champs

The globe was well represented this evening at the 2010 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships, with top placings from numerous countries.

Norway's Sarah Louise Rung took the gold and set a new World record in the Women's 100m Breaststroke (SB4) with a time of 1:52.64. Following Rung were Israel's Inbal Pezaro and Czech Republic's Bela Hlavackova. For the Men's event, Brazil's Daniel Dias took first with a time of 1:36.93, following by Spain's Ricardo Ten and Pablo Cimadevila.

In the Men`s 50m Breaststroke (SB2), Mexico's Arnulfo Castorena took first with a time of 58.31. Following Castorena were Thailand's Somchai Doungkaew and USA's Michael Demarco. In the Women's event, China's Jiangbo Xia set a World record and won first with a time of 1:12.62, followed by Sweden's Jennie Ekstrom and Denmark's Cecilie Kristiansen.

Races continue tomorrow and will finish on Saturday.

Taking place from 15-21 August, a total of 649 athletes from 53 different countries are participating at the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Competing inside the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium for the gold, silver and bronze medal in their respective event, the number of participating athletes and countries is one of the largest of any previous Swimming World Championships.
