Training for Classifiers Assessing Athletes with Visual Impairment (VI)
As part of the IPC Academy programme, IPC and IBSA jointly run a classification
course to recruit new classifiers to assess athletes with a visual impairment (VI).
This will be the second VI Classifier course after the successful course held in July
2011.
The course will take place in Bonn, Germany, on 24-25 February 2012, and aims to
recruit new VI International Classifiers. The course is open for certified
ophthalmologists and optometrists that have a proven record of expertise in low
vision and sufficient English skills. Experience and sport-technical expertise in any of
the sports in which athletes with visual impairment compete is an asset.
Successful participants of the course will be certified as VI International Classifiers
and will be recognized by the IPC and IBSA. They can therefore classify athletes
with visual impairment competing in the IPC Sports Athletics, Swimming, Alpine
Skiing and Nordic Skiing and in the IBSA Sports Goalball, Judo and Football 5-a-side.
Recognition by other International Federations is currently asked for by IBSA.
Applications are to be submitted through the NPC or
IBSA National Member to be considered.
The participation in a certification course will be mandatory over the course of the
next years for all VI classifiers currently approved by IPC and IBSA.
